About
I established The Garden Angel in Edinburgh in 2004, having left a successful career in the corporate world. I was a volunteer gardener for the RNIB and found my passion for gardening whilst carrying out this work.
My aim from day one was to provide the highest quality of work for my clients. This encompasses reliability, a good eye for detail and delivering exactly what each client and their garden requires. I work closely with my clients and listen to exactly what they are looking for with regards to their gardens. The work I carry out should meet the expectations of my clients whilst catering for the needs of each individual garden. I believe strongly in working alongside nature, not trying to control it. My work should have a positive impact on the natural world as well as creating spaces that people can thrive in.
With this in mind, The Garden Angel offers both
Plant Design and Gardening Consultancy
Plant Design
There is a well known saying that gardens are never finished. This is true, they evolve over time, they grow and mature. We change as people and our requirements from the garden change too. So, we find at times that we want to make changes to our gardens. It may be just one area, it may be the whole garden. This can include structural changes as well as re designing the border areas. This is where I can help you. I can provide a Plant List only package, which will list plants suitable for the particular area and your preferences. This will help avoid expensive plant purchasing mistakes and also give you some guidance when you come to make changes to the garden. I also offer a Plant Scheme Design document which will list the recommended plants, but it will also give you the suggested planting positions within the borders. This will help you visualise how the overall new planting scheme will look. Or you may prefer to have me project manage the new border design and install your new planting scheme.
Autumn and winter are the ideal times to start working on new Plant Designs. This means that, by the spring, the Designs are finalised and the work of ordering new plants and scheduling the installation can begin. Your new designs will be in place in plenty time for you to enjoy come the summer months. So, if you are considering a new refreshed border/garden, then please get in touch over the autumn and winter.
Gardening Consultancy
You may want to learn more about how to garden, how to grow fruit and vegetables, learn about plant care in your garden, learn how to garden without harmful chemicals, work with me to plan changes to the garden, gain more confidence in pruning and plant care. I can work with you to guide you to meet your gardening needs. You may have a gardener, but want to have a little more knowledge to develop the garden. Again, I can pass on skills and knowledge and help you plan ahead. I can source suppliers for you, again to avoid costly purchasing mistakes, and put you in touch with skilled people in their field. I can show you gardening techniques that I have tried and tested over 20 years. Soil health is key to a great garden, I can work with you to achieve this. If this is something you would like, we would book visits in advance, these can be seasonal or as frequently as you feel you need. You will learn so much about gardening also have a plan of activities.

The work we carry out should meet the expectations of our clients whilst catering for the needs of each individual garden.
I believe in working with nature and to keep our impact on it to the minimum.
